Published: 10/06/2026 (10/06/2026, 00:12:24 UTC)
Source: CVE Database V5
Vendor/Project: Red Hat
Product: Red Hat Enterprise Linux 10

Description

A flaw was found in SSSD. A local attacker can exploit this issue by sending a specially crafted request with an invalid packet length to the autofs responder UNIX socket. This causes an integer underflow and an out-of-bounds memory read, which can crash the responder process and result in a denial of service (DoS).

Technical Analysis

This vulnerability involves an integer underflow and out-of-bounds read in the autofs responder UNIX socket of SSSD on Red Hat Enterprise Linux 10. A local attacker with low privileges can exploit this by sending a malformed request with an invalid packet length, causing the responder process to crash and resulting in denial of service. The CVSS 3.1 vector indicates local attack vector, low attack complexity, low privileges required, no user interaction, unchanged scope, no confidentiality or integrity impact, and high availability impact.

Potential Impact

The primary impact is denial of service due to the crash of the autofs responder process. There is no confidentiality or integrity impact reported. The vulnerability requires local access and low privileges to exploit.

Mitigation Recommendations

Patch status is not yet confirmed — check the vendor advisory at https://access.redhat.com/security/cve/CVE-2026-104037 for current remediation guidance. Until a fix is applied, restrict local access to trusted users to mitigate exploitation risk.
