CVE-2026-104073: Exposure of Resource to Wrong Sphere in netbox-community netbox
Description
NetBox versions from 2.9.5 up to but not including 4.7.0 contain a server-side template injection vulnerability. This flaw allows a low-privileged user with the "Can add custom links" permission to steal session cookies and API tokens of other users by exposing the raw Django HttpRequest object to the Jinja2 template context. Attackers can embed victim credentials in crafted custom link templates, which bypass sanitization and exfiltrate data when viewed by privileged users, potentially leading to full account takeover.

Technical Analysis
CVE-2026-104073 is a server-side template injection vulnerability in netbox-community's NetBox product affecting versions >=2.9.5 and <4.7.0. The vulnerability arises because the raw Django HttpRequest object is exposed to the Jinja2 template context, allowing a low-privileged user with the "Can add custom links" permission to craft templates that embed session cookies or API tokens. These credentials can be exfiltrated via an img src URL that bypasses the clean_html sanitizer when a privileged user views the crafted object, enabling full account takeover.
Potential Impact
An attacker with low privileges can steal session cookies and API tokens of other users, including privileged users, leading to full account takeover. This compromises user accounts and potentially the entire NetBox instance's security.
Mitigation Recommendations
Patch status is not yet confirmed — check the vendor advisory for current remediation guidance. Until an official fix is available, restrict the "Can add custom links" permission to trusted users only and monitor for suspicious custom link templates.
