Source: CVE Database V5
Vendor/Project: SUSE
Product: SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 16.1

Description

On request the `sdbootutil` script creates a world-readable debug log in /var/log/sdbootutil.log. The log file is created world-readable, however, which means that arbitrary low-privileged users in the system will be able to extract secrets from it.

Technical Analysis

The vulnerability identified as CVE-2026-104618 involves the sdbootutil script in SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 16.1 creating a debug log file (/var/log/sdbootutil.log) that is world-readable. This improper permission setting (CWE-732) permits arbitrary low-privileged users on the system to access secrets contained in the log file. The CVSS 3.1 base score is 6.2, reflecting local attack vector with low complexity, no privileges required, no user interaction, and high confidentiality impact.

Potential Impact

Low-privileged local users can read sensitive information from the debug log file created by sdbootutil due to its world-readable permissions. This could lead to unauthorized disclosure of secrets stored in the log file. There is no indication of integrity or availability impact.

Mitigation Recommendations

No vendor advisory or patch information is provided. Patch status is not yet confirmed — check the SUSE vendor advisory for current remediation guidance. Until a fix is available, restrict access to the log file manually by adjusting file permissions to prevent world-readable access.
