Users should restrict subscriber-level access where possible and monitor for updates from the plugin vendor. Since the AJAX nonce is exposed on all front-end pages and the vulnerability relies on writable user meta, consider implementing additional access controls or disabling the vulnerable AJAX handler until a fix is available. Check the vendor advisory for any forthcoming patches or official remediation guidance.

Description

The Motors – Car Dealership & Classified Listings Plugin for WordPress has a path traversal vulnerability allowing authenticated users with subscriber-level access or higher to delete arbitrary files within the wp-content/uploads directory. This occurs due to insufficient file path validation in the stm_listings_ajax_save_user_data function in versions up to and including 1.4.125. Although deletion is restricted to the uploads directory, the vulnerability can lead to remote code execution by deleting critical files within that scope. The AJAX nonce required for the attack is exposed on all front-end pages, and the handler's stm_user_avatar_path meta is writable by any logged-in user for their own account, making exploitation trivial for authenticated users.
