CVE-2026-104899: CWE-98 Improper Control of Filename for Include/Require Statement in PHP Program ('PHP Remote File Inclusion') in paoltaia GeoDirectory – WP Business Directory Plugin and Classified Listings Directory
Description
The GeoDirectory – WP Business Directory Plugin and Classified Listings Directory plugin for WordPress is vulnerable to Local File Inclusion in all versions up to, and including, 2.8.187 via the 'design_type' parameter parameter. This makes it possible for unauthenticated attackers to include and execute arbitrary .php files on the server, allowing the execution of any PHP code in those files. This can be used to bypass access controls, obtain sensitive data, or achieve code execution in cases where .php file types can be uploaded and included. The required nonce is trivially obtainable by any anonymous visitor, as the geodir_basic_nonce value is localized to every public frontend page via the geodir_params script object, meaning no authentication, user interaction, or specific site content is required to exploit this vulnerability.

Technical Analysis
CVE-2026-104899 describes a Local File Inclusion vulnerability in the GeoDirectory – WP Business Directory Plugin and Classified Listings Directory for WordPress, affecting all versions up to 2.8.187. The flaw exists due to improper control of the filename used in include/require statements, specifically via the 'design_type' parameter. An attacker can exploit this by including arbitrary PHP files, leading to remote code execution. The nonce required for the attack is easily accessible to any visitor, making exploitation feasible without authentication or user interaction.
Potential Impact
Successful exploitation allows unauthenticated attackers to execute arbitrary PHP code on the affected server. This can result in bypassing access controls, unauthorized data disclosure, and full system compromise depending on the uploaded PHP files. The vulnerability has a high CVSS score of 8.1, indicating significant confidentiality, integrity, and availability impacts.
Mitigation Recommendations
Patch status is not yet confirmed — check the vendor advisory for current remediation guidance. Until an official fix is available, restrict file upload capabilities and monitor for suspicious activity related to the 'design_type' parameter. Avoid exposing the nonce publicly if possible. Follow vendor updates closely for an official patch.
