Technical Analysis

CVE-2026-104932 describes a deserialization vulnerability (CWE-502) in the Search Regex WordPress plugin (johnny5 project) affecting versions up to and including 3.5. The flaw allows authenticated attackers with subscriber or higher privileges to inject PHP objects through the replace_all function. Exploitation requires deserialization of untrusted data, and the presence of a POP chain enables code execution. The vulnerability has a CVSS v3.1 score of 8.0, indicating high impact on confidentiality, integrity, and availability.

Potential Impact

Successful exploitation can lead to remote code execution on the affected system, compromising confidentiality, integrity, and availability. Attackers need authenticated access at subscriber level or above to trigger the vulnerability. This elevates the risk within environments where such user roles exist.

Mitigation Recommendations

No official patch or remediation details are provided in the available data. Patch status is not yet confirmed — check the vendor advisory for current remediation guidance. Until a fix is available, restrict subscriber-level access where possible and monitor for suspicious activity related to the Search Regex plugin.
