Source: CVE Database V5
Vendor/Project: makeplane
Product: plane

Description

Plane, an open-source project management tool, had an authorization flaw prior to version 1.4.0 where deactivated users could still retain workspace owner-level access. This was due to the WorkspaceOwnerPermission check not requiring the user to be active. The issue is fixed in version 1.4.0.

Technical Analysis

CVE-2026-104961 describes an incorrect authorization vulnerability in the makeplane project management tool 'plane'. Before version 1.4.0, the WorkspaceOwnerPermission class did not verify that a user was active (is_active=True) when determining if they were a workspace owner. Consequently, users who were deactivated could still be treated as workspace owners and maintain owner-level permissions. This security flaw was addressed and corrected in version 1.4.0.

Potential Impact

An attacker or user who has been deactivated could still retain owner-level access to a workspace, potentially allowing unauthorized access or modification of project data. The impact is limited to confidentiality and integrity, with no reported availability impact. The CVSS score is 5.4 (medium severity), reflecting a network attack vector with low complexity and low privileges required.

Mitigation Recommendations

Upgrade to version 1.4.0 or later, where the issue is fixed by requiring the user to be active when checking workspace owner permissions. No other mitigation is necessary as the fix is available.
