Technical Analysis

The EnergizeLab Eilik NestJS auth service suffers from an authorization bypass vulnerability (CWE-639) due to accepting a user-controlled user ID in account update requests (mass assignment). This flaw allows an authenticated user to specify a different account's identifier during updates, effectively taking over that account. The vulnerability is tracked as CVE-2026-105040 with a CVSS 3.1 score of 8.8, indicating high impact on confidentiality, integrity, and availability.

Potential Impact

An attacker with valid credentials can escalate privileges by modifying the user ID parameter in account update requests, resulting in unauthorized access and control over other user accounts. This compromises user data confidentiality, integrity, and availability within the affected service.

Mitigation Recommendations

No official patch or remediation guidance is currently available. Patch status is not yet confirmed — check the vendor advisory for current remediation guidance. Until a fix is released, restrict access to the affected service and monitor for suspicious account update activities.
