Technical Analysis
IBM Maximo Application Suite versions 8.10, 8.11, 9.0, 9.1, and 9.2 contain a CWE-22 (Improper Limitation of a Pathname to a Restricted Directory) vulnerability. This path traversal flaw enables remote attackers to craft URL requests with dot-dot sequences (/../) to access files outside the intended directory scope, potentially exposing sensitive system files. The vulnerability is remotely exploitable without authentication or user interaction, with a CVSS 3.1 base score of 7.5 (AV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:N/S:U/C:H/I:N/A:N).
Potential Impact
Successful exploitation allows an unauthenticated remote attacker to read arbitrary files on the affected system, potentially exposing sensitive information. There is no impact on integrity or availability according to the CVSS vector. No known exploits are reported in the wild at this time.
Mitigation Recommendations
Patch status is not yet confirmed — check the vendor advisory for current remediation guidance. Since no patch or official fix information is provided, users should monitor IBM's advisories for updates. Until a fix is available, restrict access to the affected application and consider implementing web application firewall rules to detect and block path traversal attempts.
