Technical Analysis

The Schedule Post Changes With PublishPress Future WordPress plugin versions 4.10.1 up to but not including 4.10.6 do not enforce a safe HTML-element allowlist on a shortcode attribute and fail to neutralize attacker-controlled text within the resulting element. This enables users with Contributor role or higher to store JavaScript code that executes in the session of any higher-privileged user who views the content, constituting a stored Cross-Site Scripting (CWE-79) vulnerability.

Potential Impact

Users with Contributor role and above can inject malicious JavaScript that executes in the browsers of higher-privileged users who view the affected content. This can lead to session hijacking, privilege escalation, or other malicious actions within the context of the WordPress site.

Mitigation Recommendations

Upgrade the Schedule Post Changes With PublishPress Future plugin to version 4.10.6 or later, where this vulnerability is fixed. No other mitigation is indicated by the vendor advisory.
