Technical Analysis

CVE-2026-105278 describes a vulnerability in the openPDC Docker image published by the Grid Protection Alliance. The image includes a fixed administrative credential that is not forced to be changed upon first use. An attacker who can reach the management interface over the network can use this credential to authenticate and obtain full administrative privileges over the application. This vulnerability is classified under CWE-798 (Use of Hard-coded Credentials) and has a CVSS 3.1 base score of 9.8, indicating critical severity.

Potential Impact

Successful exploitation allows an unauthenticated attacker with network access to the management interface to gain full administrative control of the openPDC application. This compromises confidentiality, integrity, and availability of the system.

Mitigation Recommendations

Patch status is not yet confirmed — check the vendor advisory for current remediation guidance. Until an official fix is available, restrict network access to the management interface to trusted users only and avoid deploying the vulnerable Docker image in untrusted environments.
