Technical Analysis

This vulnerability (CWE-426) in Checkmk 2.5.0 before 2.5.0p10 involves an untrusted search path in the 'mk-oracle' agent plugin. A local user who can modify the Oracle Instant Client referenced by this plugin may escalate their privileges when the agent runs with this plugin enabled. The CVSS 4.0 score is 5.2 (medium severity), reflecting local attack vector with high complexity and partial privileges required.

Potential Impact

An attacker with local access and the ability to edit the Oracle Instant Client used by the 'mk-oracle' plugin can escalate their privileges on the system. This could lead to unauthorized actions beyond their initial permissions. There are no known exploits in the wild at this time.

Mitigation Recommendations

A fixed version (2.5.0p10 or later) is implied by the affected version range but no explicit patch link is provided. Users should upgrade to version 2.5.0p10 or later once available to remediate this vulnerability. Until then, restricting access to the Oracle Instant Client files and disabling the 'mk-oracle' plugin if not needed can reduce risk.
