CVE-2026-105772: CWE-22 Improper Limitation of a Pathname to a Restricted Directory ('Path Traversal') in Google ADK TypeScript (@google/adk)
Description
Path Traversal (CWE-22) in FileArtifactService in Google ADK TypeScript (@google/adk) versions 0.4.0 before 0.6.0 allows a remote unauthenticated attacker to read files matching the artifact directory layout or write files (when an agent tool invokes saveArtifact) outside the intended artifact storage root via crafted relative or percent-encoded path traversal sequences (such as ../ or ..%2F) in the userId or sessionId parameters when the ADK API server is exposed with the non-default FileArtifactService enabled. Applications using the default InMemoryArtifactService are unaffected. Upgrade to @google/adk version 0.6.0 or later.

Technical Analysis
The vulnerability (CWE-22) exists in the FileArtifactService of Google ADK TypeScript (@google/adk) versions >=0.4.0 and <0.6.0. An attacker can exploit path traversal sequences such as '../' or '..%2F' in the userId or sessionId parameters to access or write files outside the intended artifact storage root. This occurs when the ADK API server exposes the non-default FileArtifactService. The default InMemoryArtifactService is unaffected. The issue is resolved by upgrading to version 0.6.0 or later.
Potential Impact
An unauthenticated remote attacker can read sensitive files or write arbitrary files outside the designated artifact storage directory, potentially leading to data disclosure or unauthorized file modification. This can compromise the integrity and confidentiality of the system where the vulnerable service is exposed.
Mitigation Recommendations
Upgrade Google ADK TypeScript (@google/adk) to version 0.6.0 or later, which contains the fix for this path traversal vulnerability. If using the default InMemoryArtifactService, this vulnerability does not apply. No other mitigations are specified.
