CVE-2026-106067: Improper Restriction of Operations within the Bounds of a Memory Buffer in Red Hat Red Hat Enterprise Linux 10
Description
A heap-based buffer overflow was found in GIMP’s Hot color filter plug-in. For very large images, a pixel buffer is allocated using overflowing 32-bit width * height (and related) arithmetic while the filter’s pixel access path uses the true image size, after integer overflow in the allocation size

Technical Analysis
This vulnerability involves a heap-based buffer overflow in the GIMP Hot color filter plug-in on Red Hat Enterprise Linux 10. Specifically, for very large images, the calculation for allocating the pixel buffer uses 32-bit width * height arithmetic that can overflow, resulting in a smaller-than-needed buffer. However, the filter accesses pixels using the true image size, causing out-of-bounds memory access and a potential buffer overflow.
Potential Impact
The vulnerability can lead to integrity and availability impacts, as indicated by the CVSS vector (Integrity: High, Availability: High). There is no confidentiality impact. Exploitation requires local access with high attack complexity and no privileges, but user interaction is required. No known exploits are reported in the wild.
Mitigation Recommendations
Patch status is not yet confirmed — check the Red Hat advisory at https://access.redhat.com/security/cve/CVE-2026-106067 for current remediation guidance.
