CVE-2026-106106: CWE-79: Improper Neutralization of Input During Web Page Generation ('Cross-site Scripting') in quasarframework quasar
Description
Quasar Framework is a framework for building high-performance Vue.js user interfaces. Prior to @quasar/render-ssr-error 2.2.4 and @quasar/app-vite 3.3.0, renderSSRError() in utils/render-ssr-error/src/index.js used diagnostic data from utils/render-ssr-error/src/env.js to serialize process.env, request headers, and cookies into the HTTP page returned by serve.devError(), while the development server listened on all interfaces by default. Any network-adjacent client that reaches an SSR or SSG render failure through this development-only error path can obtain shell environment secrets. The renderer escaped only one exact lowercase script closing-tag spelling, so case variants and valid closing-tag delimiter variants in reflected diagnostic data could terminate the script element and inject markup; executing the injected code in a developer browser additionally requires the payload to accompany that developer's request. This issue is fixed in @quasar/render-ssr-error 2.2.4 and @quasar/app-vite 3.3.0.

Technical Analysis
The vulnerability exists in Quasar Framework's development server error rendering path, where renderSSRError() serialized process.env, request headers, and cookies into HTTP error pages without properly neutralizing all script closing tag variants. This improper input neutralization (CWE-79) allowed reflected cross-site scripting, enabling network-adjacent attackers to obtain shell environment secrets and inject executable code in developer browsers under specific conditions. The flaw was addressed by escaping all script closing tag variants in versions 2.2.4 of @quasar/render-ssr-error and 3.3.0 of @quasar/app-vite.
Potential Impact
An attacker on the same network as the development server can trigger server-side rendering or static site generation errors to receive error pages containing sensitive environment variables. Due to incomplete escaping, they can inject malicious scripts that execute in the developer's browser if the developer visits the crafted error page. This exposure risks leaking shell environment secrets and executing arbitrary code in the developer's context. The vulnerability affects only development environments where the server listens on all interfaces by default.
Mitigation Recommendations
This vulnerability is fixed in @quasar/render-ssr-error version 2.2.4 and @quasar/app-vite version 3.3.0. Users should upgrade to these or later versions to remediate the issue. Since this affects development-only error paths, restricting development server network exposure can reduce risk until patched. Patch status is confirmed fixed in the specified versions.
