Technical Analysis

The Gallery PhotoBlocks WordPress plugin before version 1.3.6 contains a stored Cross-Site Scripting (CWE-79) vulnerability. Specifically, one of its gallery settings is not sanitized or escaped before being output into an HTML attribute. This flaw permits users with Contributor-level permissions or higher to inject malicious JavaScript code that executes in the context of any user viewing the gallery page, potentially leading to session hijacking or other browser-based attacks.

Potential Impact

Users with Contributor-level access and above can inject persistent JavaScript code into gallery settings. This code executes in the browsers of all users who view the affected gallery, including administrators, potentially allowing attackers to perform actions such as session hijacking or privilege escalation within the WordPress environment.

Mitigation Recommendations

Upgrade the Gallery PhotoBlocks plugin to version 1.3.6 or later, where this vulnerability is fixed. Since the affected versions are explicitly identified as >=1.3.5 and <1.3.6, applying the official update eliminates the risk. No other mitigation is indicated by the vendor advisory.
