CVE-2026-107362: CWE-918 Server-Side request forgery (SSRF) in CISA Malcolm

Published: 10/08/2026 (10/08/2026, 18:32:30 UTC)
Source: CVE Database V5
Vendor/Project: CISA
Product: Malcolm

Description

Malcolm file-upload component ships the upstream FilePond PHP server (pqina/filepond-server-php) largely unmodified: Dockerfile copies all upstream *.php files and Malcolm only overwrites config.php and submit.php. Upstream index.php exposes a fetch API route that instructs the server to download an arbitrary URL with curl (including FOLLOWLOCATION) and, for HEAD requests, stores the fetched response body in the upload container's transfer directory and returns the transfer ID to the caller, enabling full readback of the fetched content.

Technical Analysis

Malcolm's file-upload component includes the FilePond PHP server largely unmodified. The upstream index.php exposes a fetch API route that uses curl with FOLLOWLOCATION to download arbitrary URLs. For HEAD requests, the server stores the fetched response body in a transfer directory and returns a transfer ID, enabling an attacker to read arbitrary content fetched by the server. This constitutes a server-side request forgery (CWE-918) vulnerability.

Potential Impact

An attacker with at least low privileges can exploit this SSRF vulnerability to cause the Malcolm server to fetch arbitrary URLs and read the response content. This can lead to unauthorized disclosure of internal or external resources accessible by the server. The vulnerability impacts confidentiality (high impact) but does not affect integrity or availability significantly.

Mitigation Recommendations

No official patch or fix is currently documented. Patch status is not yet confirmed — check the vendor advisory for current remediation guidance. Until a fix is available, restrict access to the vulnerable API endpoint and limit network access from the Malcolm server to trusted destinations to reduce exploitation risk.
