Published: 10/21/2026 (10/21/2026, 08:38:58 UTC)
Source: CVE Database V5
Product: Contest Gallery

Description

The Contest Gallery WordPress plugin before 34.0.1 does not reliably validate the visitor identity used to enforce its one-vote-per-entry restriction, trusting a client-supplied request header and an unbound client-generated token, which allows unauthenticated users to bypass the restriction and cast multiple votes for the same contest entry, inflating its vote total.

Technical Analysis

The Contest Gallery WordPress plugin before version 34.0.1 does not reliably verify the identity of visitors when enforcing the one-vote-per-entry rule. It trusts client-supplied request headers and an unbound client-generated token, which can be manipulated by unauthenticated users to bypass the voting restriction. This results in the ability to cast multiple votes for a single contest entry, thereby inflating the vote total illegitimately. The vulnerability is classified as CWE-290 (Authentication Bypass by Spoofing) and has a CVSS 3.1 base score of 5.3, indicating a medium severity level.

Potential Impact

Unauthenticated attackers can exploit this vulnerability to bypass the one-vote-per-entry restriction in the Contest Gallery plugin, allowing them to cast multiple votes for the same contest entry. This compromises the integrity of contest results by enabling vote inflation. There is no impact on confidentiality or availability, but the integrity of voting data is affected.

Mitigation Recommendations

A fix is available in Contest Gallery version 34.0.1. Users should upgrade to version 34.0.1 or later to remediate this vulnerability. No additional mitigation steps are indicated by the vendor advisory.
