Technical Analysis

CVE-2026-107506 describes an improper privilege management vulnerability (CWE-269) in the Simple Banner WordPress plugin versions prior to 3.3.3. The plugin incorrectly assigns full administrator capabilities to user roles that an administrator designates to manage banners. This misconfiguration allows users with limited privileges to escalate their access rights to full administrator level, leading to a complete compromise of the affected WordPress site.

Potential Impact

Users with low-privileged roles can escalate their privileges to full administrator level, enabling them to take complete control over the WordPress site. This can lead to unauthorized modifications, data breaches, or site takeover.

Mitigation Recommendations

Upgrade the Simple Banner plugin to version 3.3.3 or later, where this privilege management issue is fixed. Since the vulnerability affects versions before 3.3.3, applying the official update is the recommended remediation.
