Product: Red Hat Enterprise Linux 10

Description

CVE-2026-107565 is a vulnerability in the luksmeta component of Red Hat Enterprise Linux 10. It allows a local attacker with administrative privileges to cause data corruption by improperly validating the quantity specified when saving metadata to a LUKS device. Incorrect boundary calculations and flawed overlap detection can lead to metadata entries being written beyond free space or over existing records, potentially corrupting encrypted payload data or metadata and making data inaccessible.

Technical Analysis

This vulnerability involves improper validation of specified quantity in input within the luksmeta tool used for managing metadata on Linux Unified Key Setup (LUKS) devices in Red Hat Enterprise Linux 10. A local attacker with administrative privileges can exploit incorrect boundary calculations and overlap detection flaws to write metadata entries beyond the available free space or overwrite existing metadata records. This can result in corruption of encrypted payload data or metadata, potentially rendering the data inaccessible.

Potential Impact

The flaw can cause data corruption on LUKS encrypted devices, affecting the integrity and availability of encrypted data. While confidentiality is not impacted, the corruption may lead to loss of access to encrypted data or metadata, which can disrupt system operations relying on LUKS encryption.

Mitigation Recommendations

Patch status is not yet confirmed — check the vendor advisory at https://access.redhat.com/security/cve/CVE-2026-107565 for current remediation guidance. Until an official fix is available, restrict administrative access to trusted users to prevent exploitation.
