CVE-2026-107692: CWE-319 in Gaijin Entertainment War Thunder
Description
The War Thunder game client transmits its authentication bearer token (auth_jwt) in the very first data packet after the TCP handshake, using only LZ4 compression rather than encryption. An attacker positioned on the network path can passively intercept and decompress this packet to reveal the plaintext JSON payload. This vulnerability allows for temporary authenticated impersonation, enabling an attacker to access game services and certain user data (such as email address and displayed phone number) as the affected user. While this allows for unauthorized access to gameplay, it does not facilitate full account takeover, as it cannot be used to modify account security settings, change passwords, bypass two-factor authentication for account management, or access financial information.

Technical Analysis
The War Thunder game client sends its authentication bearer token (auth_jwt) immediately after the TCP handshake using LZ4 compression without encryption. An attacker on the network path can passively intercept and decompress this packet to obtain the plaintext JSON payload containing the token. This vulnerability enables temporary authenticated impersonation, allowing unauthorized access to gameplay services and certain user data such as email address and displayed phone number. However, it does not allow modification of account security settings, password changes, bypassing two-factor authentication, or access to financial information.
Potential Impact
An attacker who can intercept network traffic can obtain the authentication token and impersonate the user temporarily to access game services and some personal data. This does not lead to full account takeover or compromise of sensitive account management functions or financial data.
Mitigation Recommendations
Patch status is not yet confirmed — check the vendor advisory for current remediation guidance. Until a fix is available, users should avoid using untrusted networks or use VPNs to protect their network traffic from interception.
