Published: 10/08/2026 (10/08/2026, 19:51:14 UTC)
Source: CVE Database V5
Vendor/Project: Intego
Product: Intego Antivirus

Description

Intego Antivirus for Windows versions up to 3.0.0.1 contains a link following vulnerability in its optimization module. This flaw allows local unprivileged users to delete arbitrary folders with SYSTEM privileges by exploiting symbolic link (junction) redirection. Specifically, attackers can replace a scanned duplicate file's directory with a junction to a sensitive system path (C:\Config.msi) and leverage Windows Installer rollback to execute code as SYSTEM.

Technical Analysis

CVE-2026-107707 is a local privilege escalation vulnerability in Intego Antivirus for Windows (up to version 3.0.0.1). The vulnerability arises from improper link resolution before file access in the optimization module, enabling an attacker with local access and low privileges to delete arbitrary folders as the SYSTEM user. The attack involves substituting a directory of a scanned duplicate file with a junction pointing to C:\Config.msi, abusing Windows Installer rollback mechanisms to execute code with SYSTEM privileges.

Potential Impact

Successful exploitation allows a local unprivileged user to gain SYSTEM-level privileges by deleting arbitrary folders and executing code as SYSTEM. This represents a high-severity local privilege escalation risk, potentially leading to full system compromise.

Mitigation Recommendations

No patch or official fix information is provided in the available data. Patch status is not yet confirmed — check the vendor advisory for current remediation guidance. Until a fix is available, restrict local user access and monitor for suspicious activity related to symbolic link manipulation.
