Published: 10/21/2026 (10/21/2026, 06:00:20 UTC)
Source: CVE Database V5
Product: HireZoot

Description

The HireZoot WordPress plugin before 4.1.1 does not sanitise and escape some of its stored data before outputting it in the admin dashboard, and additionally reverses the HTML-entity encoding that would otherwise neutralise it, allowing users with the Author role to perform Stored Cross-Site Scripting attacks that execute in the context of a logged-in administrator.

Technical Analysis

The HireZoot WordPress plugin prior to version 4.1.1 contains a stored XSS vulnerability (CWE-79) due to improper sanitization and escaping of stored data before rendering it in the admin dashboard. Additionally, the plugin reverses HTML-entity encoding that would normally neutralize such scripts. This flaw enables users with the Author role to inject and execute arbitrary JavaScript code within the administrator's session context, potentially leading to privilege escalation or session hijacking.

Potential Impact

An attacker with Author-level permissions can perform stored XSS attacks that execute in the administrator's browser context. This can lead to unauthorized actions performed with administrator privileges, including potential site compromise or data theft. The vulnerability leverages the plugin's failure to sanitize and escape output and its reversal of HTML-entity encoding.

Mitigation Recommendations

Upgrade the HireZoot plugin to version 4.1.1 or later, where this vulnerability is fixed. Since the affected versions are prior to 4.1.1, applying this official fix will remediate the issue. No additional mitigations are specified.
