Product: nginx-ui

Description

CVE-2026-107810 is a vulnerability in 0xJacky's nginx-ui web interface versions 2.0.0 through 2.4.x. It allows an authenticated user with backup and restore privileges to create a crafted backup containing symbolic links that point to live Nginx configuration files. This can lead to persistent configuration injection or denial of service when the altered files are used. The issue is fixed in version 2.5.0.

Technical Analysis

The vulnerability arises from improper link resolution before file access in the internal/backup/restore.go component of nginx-ui. Specifically, the restore process extracts archives and permits symlinks targeting live Nginx configuration paths even when restore flags are false. An attacker with authentication and backup/restore capabilities can exploit this by crafting backups that place symlinks in the staging area, enabling overwriting of critical configuration files. This can cause persistent configuration manipulation or denial of service. The flaw is addressed in version 2.5.0.

Potential Impact

An authenticated user with backup and restore permissions can inject malicious configuration or cause denial of service by overwriting live Nginx configuration files via symlink manipulation. This impacts integrity and availability of the Nginx service but does not affect confidentiality. The CVSS v3.1 score is 8.1 (high severity) reflecting network attack vector, low complexity, and no user interaction required.

Mitigation Recommendations

Upgrade nginx-ui to version 2.5.0 or later where this vulnerability is fixed. No other vendor advisories or temporary mitigations are provided. Patch status is confirmed fixed in 2.5.0.
