CVE-2026-107812: CWE-494: Download of Code Without Integrity Check in 0xJacky nginx-ui
Description
A vulnerability in 0xJacky's nginx-ui from versions 2.0.0 up to but not including 2.5.0 allows an attacker controlling the upgrade mirror or network to supply malicious executable code during a self-upgrade. The upgrade mechanism only validates the downloaded binary with a same-origin digest from the same mirror, which can be manipulated. An operator must trigger the upgrade, after which the malicious code runs in the nginx-ui process context. This issue is fixed in version 2.5.0.

Technical Analysis
The nginx-ui web user interface for the Nginx web server has a vulnerability (CVE-2026-107812) classified under CWE-494 (Download of Code Without Integrity Check). Between versions 2.0.0 and 2.5.0, the self-upgrade mechanism validates the downloaded binary only by comparing it to a digest obtained from the same upgrade mirror. If an attacker compromises the mirror or intercepts and alters the network traffic, they can supply a malicious executable along with a matching digest. This malicious code executes in the context of the nginx-ui process after an operator-triggered upgrade. The vulnerability is resolved in version 2.5.0.
Potential Impact
An attacker who can compromise the upgrade mirror or intercept network traffic can supply malicious code during an operator-triggered upgrade. This code runs with the privileges of the nginx-ui process, potentially leading to full compromise of the nginx-ui application and its environment. The vulnerability requires user interaction to trigger the upgrade and does not allow remote automatic exploitation.
Mitigation Recommendations
Upgrade nginx-ui to version 2.5.0 or later, where the vulnerability is fixed. Until then, ensure the upgrade mirrors and network paths are secure and trusted to prevent tampering. Since the vulnerability requires an operator-triggered upgrade, avoid performing upgrades from untrusted sources or networks.
