Source: CVE Database V5
Vendor/Project: MariaDB
Product: server

Description

MariaDB server versions from 10.6.1 up to but not including 10.6.28, 10.11.1 up to 10.11.19, 11.4.1 up to 11.4.13, 11.8.1 up to 11.8.9, 12.3.1 up to 12.3.3, and 13.0.1 up to 13.0.2 contain a vulnerability in the ACL cache. The cache could generate identical database-privilege cache keys for role and localhost user names that matched due to an empty IP component. An attacker with CREATE USER privileges could exploit this to gain privileges assigned to another account. This issue has been fixed in the specified fixed versions.

Technical Analysis

CVE-2026-107822 describes a vulnerability in MariaDB server's ACL cache where the cache key generation for database privileges could collide between role and localhost user names if both had an empty IP component. This flaw allows an attacker with CREATE USER privileges to create a principal that collides with an existing one, potentially enabling privilege escalation by exercising privileges assigned to the other account. The vulnerability affects multiple MariaDB versions starting from 10.6.1 through various branches, with fixes applied in versions 10.6.28, 10.11.19, 11.4.13, 11.8.9, 12.3.3, and 13.0.2.

Potential Impact

An attacker with the ability to create users could exploit this vulnerability to gain unauthorized privileges by leveraging the cache key collision in the ACL system. This could lead to privilege escalation, compromising confidentiality, integrity, and availability of the database server.

Mitigation Recommendations

This vulnerability is fixed in MariaDB versions 10.6.28, 10.11.19, 11.4.13, 11.8.9, 12.3.3, and 13.0.2. Users should upgrade to these versions or later to remediate the issue. No other mitigation guidance is provided.
