Description

** UNSUPPORTED WHEN ASSIGNED ** Improper neutralization of special elements used in an SQL command ('SQL injection') vulnerability in Apache Cocoon. This issue affects Apache Cocoon: all versions. Missing input sanitation would allow arbitrary SQL injection through the SQL processor or sql:/esql: logicsheets. As this project is retired, we do not plan to release a version that fixes this issue. Users are recommended to find an alternative or restrict access to the instance to trusted users. NOTE: This vulnerability only affects products that are no longer supported by the maintainer.

Technical Analysis

CVE-2026-108087 describes an SQL injection vulnerability in Apache Cocoon affecting all versions. The vulnerability arises from missing input sanitation in the SQL processor or sql:/esql: logicsheets, allowing arbitrary SQL injection. Since Apache Cocoon is a retired project, no official patch or fix will be provided. The vulnerability is classified under CWE-89 (Improper neutralization of special elements used in an SQL command).

Potential Impact

An attacker with access to the vulnerable Apache Cocoon instance could exploit the lack of input sanitization to perform arbitrary SQL injection attacks. This could lead to unauthorized data access or manipulation. However, since the product is no longer supported, the risk remains unless mitigated by restricting access or migrating to supported alternatives.

Mitigation Recommendations

No official fix or patch is available as Apache Cocoon is retired. Users should restrict access to the vulnerable instance to trusted users only or migrate to an alternative supported product to mitigate the risk.
