Published: 10/09/2026 (10/09/2026, 16:45:57 UTC)
Source: CVE Database V5
Vendor/Project: Red Hat
Product: Red Hat Enterprise Linux 10

Description

A NULL pointer dereference vulnerability exists in the GIMP XCF loader on Red Hat Enterprise Linux 10. The flaw occurs because the loader processes image-simulation-intent and image-simulation-bpc parasites without verifying the presence of parasite data before dereferencing it. Opening a specially crafted XCF file with a zero-size simulation parasite can cause the GIMP application to crash.

Technical Analysis

CVE-2026-108093 describes a vulnerability in the GIMP image editor included in Red Hat Enterprise Linux 10. The vulnerability arises from the XCF loader's failure to check for the presence of parasite data before dereferencing it when processing image-simulation-intent and image-simulation-bpc parasites. This can lead to a NULL pointer dereference and cause the application to crash when opening a maliciously crafted XCF file containing a zero-size simulation parasite.

Potential Impact

Successful exploitation results in a denial of service by crashing the GIMP application. There is no impact on confidentiality or integrity as per the CVSS vector. The attack requires local access with user interaction and low attack complexity.
