Description

CVE-2026-108264 is a critical vulnerability in the wizarr application prior to version 2026.9.1. It involves improper neutralization of special elements in a template engine, allowing authenticated users with step creation privileges or administrators importing untrusted bundles to execute arbitrary Python code. This can lead to remote code execution, disclosure of sensitive application secrets, and stored cross-site scripting. The issue is fixed in version 2026.9.1.

Technical Analysis

Wizarr versions before 2026.9.1 contain a vulnerability where wizard step Markdown content is evaluated in a non-sandboxed Jinja2 environment with application globals exposed. Authenticated users able to create wizard steps or administrators importing untrusted bundles can inject malicious code that executes arbitrary Python during rendering of the stored step. This includes execution of operating system commands as the application user, exposure of the Flask SECRET_KEY, access to connected service credentials and the database, and stored cross-site scripting. The vulnerability is addressed in version 2026.9.1.

Potential Impact

Successful exploitation allows an authenticated user with specific privileges to execute arbitrary Python code on the server, potentially leading to full system compromise, disclosure of sensitive secrets such as the Flask SECRET_KEY, access to service credentials and databases, and stored cross-site scripting attacks. This can severely impact confidentiality, integrity, and availability of the application and underlying system.

Mitigation Recommendations

Upgrade to version 2026.9.1 or later where this vulnerability is fixed. No other mitigation or workaround is specified. Patch status is confirmed as fixed in 2026.9.1.
