Technical Analysis

ERPNext versions before 15.118.0 and from 16.0.0 up to but not including 16.27.0 have an authorization bypass vulnerability (CWE-862) in the Sales Person-wise Transaction Summary report endpoints. Authenticated users with limited roles can query financial transaction rows without the appropriate document permission checks, leading to unauthorized read access to sensitive financial data. The vulnerability is resolved in versions 15.118.0 and 16.27.0.

Potential Impact

An attacker with a limited role and authenticated access can read financial data beyond their authorized scope, potentially exposing sensitive financial information. The vulnerability does not affect data integrity or availability, only confidentiality.

Mitigation Recommendations

Upgrade ERPNext to version 15.118.0 or later if using the 15.x branch, or to version 16.27.0 or later if using the 16.x branch. These versions include the official fix that enforces proper authorization checks on the affected endpoints.
