Technical Analysis

CVE-2026-108740 describes a mass assignment vulnerability in GoatCounter through version 2.7.0. The userPrefSave handler improperly controls modification of dynamically-determined object attributes, enabling attackers with read-only access to escalate privileges. By POSTing parameters such as user.access[all]=* and user.email_verified=true to the /user/pref endpoint, attackers can bypass readonly tags and gain superuser or admin access.

Potential Impact

An attacker with read-only access can escalate privileges to superuser or admin by exploiting this vulnerability. This compromises account integrity and potentially the entire application security, allowing unauthorized administrative actions.
