Technical Analysis

CVE-2026-108851 is a missing authorization vulnerability in phpMyFAQ through version 4.1.10 affecting the MCP server's faq_search tool. Specifically, the Search::searchDatabase() function fails to apply user or group permission checks, allowing attackers connected to the phpmyfaq:mcp:server to issue search queries that retrieve the full question and answer text of FAQs restricted to certain users or groups. This vulnerability affects versions from 4.1.0 up to and including 4.1.10.

Potential Impact

Attackers with access to the phpmyfaq:mcp:server can read restricted FAQ content that should be limited to specific users or groups. This unauthorized disclosure of information could expose sensitive or confidential FAQ data. The vulnerability does not allow privilege escalation or code execution but compromises data confidentiality within the affected component.

Mitigation Recommendations

Patch status is not yet confirmed — check the vendor advisory for current remediation guidance. Until an official fix is available, restrict access to the phpmyfaq:mcp:server interface to trusted users only to minimize exposure. Monitor vendor channels for updates and apply patches promptly once released.
