Source: CVE Database V5
Vendor/Project: David-Crty
Product: databasement

Description

CVE-2026-108963 is a high-severity vulnerability in databasement before version 1.8.2 that allows authenticated users to achieve remote code execution. The issue arises because certain commands, such as mariadb-dump, are executed with a database name argument that can be controlled by the user. This argument injection enables indirect code execution, for example by writing to files like index.php. The vulnerability is due to improper neutralization of argument delimiters (CWE-88).

Technical Analysis

databasement versions prior to 1.8.2 contain a command injection vulnerability (CWE-88) where authenticated users can specify the database name argument to commands like mariadb-dump. Although quoting prevents direct OS command injection, the argument injection itself is sufficient to cause remote code execution indirectly, such as by writing arbitrary files (e.g., --result-file=/app/public/index.php). This allows an attacker with authentication privileges to execute arbitrary code on the system.

Potential Impact

An authenticated user can exploit this vulnerability to execute arbitrary code remotely by injecting arguments into commands run by databasement. This can lead to full compromise of the affected system, including confidentiality, integrity, and availability impacts as reflected by the CVSS score of 8.8 (high severity).

Mitigation Recommendations

A fix is available in databasement version 1.8.2 and later. Users should upgrade to version 1.8.2 or newer to remediate this vulnerability. No other official patches or temporary fixes are indicated. Until upgrading, restrict authenticated user privileges to limit exposure.
