Published: 10/12/2026 (10/12/2026, 06:18:08 UTC)
Source: CVE Database V5
Vendor/Project: Red Hat
Product: Red Hat Build of Keycloak

Description

A flaw was found in the Client-Initiated Backchannel Authentication CIBA implementation within the keycloak-services component of Keycloak. This component handles advanced authentication flows where a client initiates a login on behalf of a user. The issue occurs because Keycloak fails to verify that a client is authorized to use the CIBA flow, allowing public clients to bypass security requirements. An attacker could use this flaw to trick a user into approving a login request, eventually gaining full access to the users account without needing a client secret.

Technical Analysis

This vulnerability exists in the CIBA implementation of the keycloak-services component in Red Hat Build of Keycloak. The issue arises because Keycloak fails to verify whether a client is authorized to use the CIBA flow, which is intended for advanced authentication scenarios where a client initiates login on behalf of a user. Due to this lack of verification, public clients can bypass security requirements, potentially allowing an attacker to deceive a user into approving a login request and thereby gain full account access without possessing the client secret.

Potential Impact

Successful exploitation allows an attacker to gain full access to a user's account by tricking the user into approving a login request. This bypasses the intended security controls of the CIBA flow, compromising confidentiality and integrity of the affected accounts. The vulnerability does not affect availability.

Mitigation Recommendations

Patch status is not yet confirmed — check the Red Hat advisory at https://access.redhat.com/security/cve/CVE-2026-109082 for current remediation guidance. Until an official fix is available, restrict use of public clients with CIBA flow or disable CIBA if not required.
