Vendor/Project: TYPO3
Product: TYPO3 CMS

Description

TYPO3 CMS versions 14.0.0 through 14.3.8 contain a vulnerability where forms using FileUpload or ImageUpload elements with a custom saveToFileMount setting incorrectly store uploaded files in the default public storage folder instead of the intended restricted storage. This misplacement causes uploaded files to be publicly accessible without the intended access controls. Forms using the default saveToFileMount value are not affected.

Technical Analysis

CVE-2026-109162 is a vulnerability in TYPO3 CMS affecting versions 14.0.0 to 14.3.8. When forms use FileUpload or ImageUpload elements with a custom saveToFileMount configured, uploaded files are incorrectly saved in the default public storage folder (1:/user_upload/) rather than the configured restricted storage location. This results in uploaded files being served directly without access checks, potentially exposing sensitive files publicly. Forms that use the default saveToFileMount setting are not impacted.

Potential Impact

Uploaded files intended for restricted, non-public storage may be exposed publicly due to incorrect storage location. This could lead to unauthorized access to sensitive files that were meant to be protected by access controls. The vulnerability affects only configurations using a custom saveToFileMount; default configurations are not affected.

Mitigation Recommendations

Patch status is not yet confirmed — check the vendor advisory for current remediation guidance. Until a fix is available, avoid using custom saveToFileMount settings in forms with FileUpload or ImageUpload elements or verify that uploaded files are stored in the correct, non-public storage locations. Monitor official TYPO3 advisories for updates and apply patches once released.
