If you cannot patch yet, avoid processing untrusted GIF images or implement resource limits on image processing tasks to mitigate impact.

Description

CVE-2026-109261 is a memory leak vulnerability in ImageMagick's GIF encoder affecting versions before 6.9.13-57 and 7.x before 7.1.2-32. The issue occurs when color quantization fails during GIF encoding, causing allocated memory not to be released. This can be exploited by attackers supplying crafted images that trigger quantization failure, leading to memory exhaustion and degraded availability.
