Technical Analysis

CVE-2026-109306 is a missing authorization vulnerability in Craft CMS affecting versions >=5.0.0 and <5.10.14. The vulnerability exists in the AppController::actionSwitchToLicensedEdition() method, which improperly allows authenticated low-privileged users to invoke an action route that changes the installed edition of the CMS. This can lead to a persistent downgrade of the site edition in the project configuration, a state that administrators cannot revert via the control panel interface.

Potential Impact

An attacker with low-level authenticated access can downgrade the CMS edition persistently, potentially reducing functionality or licensing features. This downgrade cannot be reversed by administrators through the control panel, which may disrupt normal site operations or licensing compliance. The CVSS 4.0 base score is 6.0 (medium severity), reflecting network attack vector, low attack complexity, and partial privileges required.

Mitigation Recommendations

A fix is available in Craft CMS version 5.10.14 and later. Users should upgrade to version 5.10.14 or above to remediate this vulnerability. Until patched, restrict authenticated user permissions to trusted users only and monitor for unauthorized edition changes if possible.
