Users should restrict contributor-level access and above to trusted individuals to reduce risk. Monitor the vendor's advisory channels for updates or patches. Until a fix is available, avoid embedding untrusted content via this plugin or disable the plugin if feasible.
Description
The Document Embedder plugin for WordPress (versions up to 2.4.0) contains a stored DOM-based cross-site scripting (XSS) vulnerability. Authenticated users with contributor-level access or higher can inject malicious scripts via the 'content' parameter. The injected script executes when a user clicks the embedded document's Download button, exploiting an AJAX fallback mechanism that improperly handles document IDs, allowing bypass of normal download flow checks.
