Published: 10/12/2026 (10/12/2026, 15:16:43 UTC)
Source: CVE Database V5
Vendor/Project: gumlet
Product: php-image-resize

Description

A denial of service vulnerability exists in gumlet php-image-resize before version 3.0.1. The vulnerability arises because the ImageResize constructor passes images to GD imagecreatefrom* functions without enforcing pixel limits. This allows remote attackers to upload small, highly compressed images that decompress into large bitmaps, exhausting PHP memory and terminating the worker process.

Technical Analysis

CVE-2026-109398 affects gumlet php-image-resize versions prior to 3.0.1. The ImageResize constructor in lib/ImageResize.php does not impose pixel limits when passing images to GD's imagecreatefrom* functions. This improper handling of highly compressed images enables remote attackers to cause a denial of service by uploading small images that expand into large bitmaps, consuming excessive PHP memory and terminating the worker process.

Potential Impact

Successful exploitation results in denial of service by exhausting PHP memory resources, causing the termination of the worker process handling the image. This disrupts service availability but does not indicate code execution or data compromise.

Mitigation Recommendations

A fix is available in version 3.0.1 of gumlet php-image-resize. Users should upgrade to version 3.0.1 or later to remediate this vulnerability.
