CVE-2026-109423: Improper Certificate Validation in NetEase NetEase Cloud Music for Windows
Description
NetEase Cloud Music client for Windows versions 3.1.38 and 3.1.39.205426 have a critical TLS certificate validation vulnerability. The client fails to properly validate the server certificate chain, hostname, and does not consult the Windows certificate trust store. This flaw allows a network-adjacent attacker to perform man-in-the-middle attacks, decrypt HTTPS traffic, capture session credentials, and modify server responses, potentially leading to account takeover and response forgery.

Technical Analysis
CVE-2026-109423 describes a vulnerability in NetEase Cloud Music for Windows (cloudmusic.exe) versions 3.1.38 and 3.1.39.205426 where TLS certificate validation is improperly implemented. The client does not validate the server certificate chain, verify the hostname, or use the Windows certificate trust store, enabling attackers positioned on the network to intercept and decrypt HTTPS traffic. This allows attackers to capture the MUSIC_U session credential sent in authenticated API requests and modify server responses in transit, facilitating account takeover and transport-layer response forgery.
Potential Impact
An attacker with network adjacency can exploit this vulnerability to perform man-in-the-middle attacks, decrypt secure HTTPS communications, steal session credentials, and alter server responses. This compromises user account security and data integrity within the affected client versions.
Mitigation Recommendations
Patch status is not yet confirmed — check the vendor advisory for current remediation guidance. Until an official fix is available, users should avoid using the affected versions or restrict network exposure to trusted environments to mitigate risk.
