Published: 10/12/2026 (10/12/2026, 20:55:16 UTC)
Source: CVE Database V5
Vendor/Project: rdfjs
Product: N3.js

Description

N3.js versions before 2.11.1 have a regular expression denial of service (ReDoS) vulnerability in the N3Lexer number pattern. This flaw causes quadratic backtracking on long digit sequences that do not terminate a number, allowing attackers to supply crafted Turtle or N3 input to block the Node.js event loop and cause denial of service.

Technical Analysis

CVE-2026-109563 describes a ReDoS vulnerability in the rdfjs N3.js library prior to version 2.11.1. The vulnerability exists in the N3Lexer number pattern's regular expression, which exhibits quadratic backtracking behavior when processing long runs of digits that fail to form a valid number token. An attacker can exploit this by providing untrusted Turtle or N3 input with such digit sequences, causing the Node.js event loop to be blocked and resulting in denial of service.

Potential Impact

Successful exploitation leads to denial of service by blocking the Node.js event loop, potentially disrupting applications that rely on N3.js for parsing Turtle or N3 data. There are no indications of privilege escalation, data leakage, or code execution.

Mitigation Recommendations

Upgrade N3.js to version 2.11.1 or later, where this vulnerability has been fixed. No other mitigations are indicated.
