Source: CVE Database V5
Vendor/Project: Th0rgal
Product: sandboxed.sh

Description

CVE-2026-109569 is a critical container escape vulnerability in Th0rgal's sandboxed.sh up to version 1.3.0. The vulnerability arises because nsenter is used without the --root option, allowing code running inside container workspaces to access and modify the host filesystem. This bypasses the intended isolation of containers, enabling potential unauthorized host file access and modification.

Technical Analysis

The sandboxed.sh utility versions up to 1.3.0 contain a container escape vulnerability due to insecure initialization of a resource. Specifically, nsenter is invoked without the --root flag, which allows code executing inside container workspaces to resolve absolute paths on the host system. This flaw enables containerized agent-run code to read and modify host files, effectively bypassing container isolation mechanisms.

Potential Impact

An attacker with the ability to run code inside a container workspace can exploit this vulnerability to access and modify files on the host filesystem. This breaks the fundamental security boundary provided by containerization, potentially leading to host compromise, data tampering, or unauthorized information disclosure.

Mitigation Recommendations

Patch status is not yet confirmed — check the vendor advisory for current remediation guidance. Until a fix is available, avoid running untrusted code in sandboxed.sh containers or restrict container workspace access to trusted users only.
