Technical Analysis
Frappe ERPNext versions prior to 15.121.0 and 16.x prior to 16.34.0 contain an SQL injection vulnerability due to improper neutralization of special elements in SQL commands. This vulnerability affects several endpoints that do not validate input correctly, allowing authenticated users with minimal privileges to craft requests that read sensitive data of other users and escalate their privileges to a more privileged account.
Potential Impact
An attacker with any authenticated access, including users without assigned roles, can exploit this vulnerability to read sensitive information belonging to other users and escalate their privileges within the ERPNext system. This could lead to unauthorized data disclosure and potential full system compromise depending on the escalated privileges.
Mitigation Recommendations
A fix is available in versions 15.121.0 and later, and 16.34.0 and later. Users should upgrade to these versions to remediate the vulnerability. Since this is a software vulnerability in self-hosted ERPNext, patching the affected versions is the recommended mitigation.
