Source: CVE Database V5
Vendor/Project: PHP Group
Product: PHP

Description

PHP has various global state that temporarily points into request memory. In some scenarios, global state may not be correctly reset, or may be repopulated after being reset. The global state may then refer to request memory even after it has been freed. Subsequent requests may read or branch on this stale state before it is fully initialized. Multiple strategies can trigger this condition and produce remote code execution (RCE).

Technical Analysis

PHP contains global state pointers that temporarily reference request memory. In some scenarios, this global state is not properly reset or is repopulated after being reset, causing it to point to memory that has already been freed. Subsequent requests may then read or branch based on this stale state before it is fully initialized. Multiple exploitation strategies exist that can trigger this condition, potentially resulting in remote code execution. The CVSS 4.0 score is 9.2, indicating a critical severity level. No affected versions or patch information are provided in the data.

Potential Impact

Successful exploitation of this vulnerability can lead to remote code execution without requiring privileges or user interaction. The vulnerability arises from use-after-free conditions in PHP's global state management, which can be triggered remotely. This poses a critical risk to systems running vulnerable PHP versions.

Mitigation Recommendations

Patch status is not yet confirmed — check the vendor advisory for current remediation guidance. No official fix or patch information is provided in the available data. Until a patch is available, monitor vendor communications for updates.
