Technical Analysis

Frappe ERPNext versions prior to 15.120.0 and 16.x prior to 16.23.0 contain an authorization bypass vulnerability in an endpoint that respects a caller-supplied flag disabling its own permission enforcement. Authenticated users can exploit this by setting the flag when calling the endpoint, thereby skipping permission checks and accessing party records they are not authorized to view. This vulnerability has a CVSS 4.0 base score of 7.1, indicating a high severity level due to network attack vector, low attack complexity, and no user interaction required.

Potential Impact

An authenticated attacker can bypass permission checks in the affected ERPNext endpoint, allowing unauthorized reading of party records beyond their permitted roles. This could lead to unauthorized disclosure of sensitive information within the ERP system.

Mitigation Recommendations

A fix is available in Frappe ERPNext versions 15.120.0 and 16.23.0 and later. Users should upgrade to these versions or later to remediate this vulnerability. No additional mitigation guidance is provided in the vendor advisory.
