Technical Analysis

Frappe ERPNext versions prior to 15.120.0 and 16.x prior to 16.33.0 contain a missing authorization vulnerability where some endpoints do not enforce adequate permission checks. This flaw permits authenticated users with low privileges to directly request these endpoints and access financial data that should be restricted based on their role permissions. The CVSS 4.0 score is 7.1, indicating a high severity due to network attack vector, low attack complexity, no user interaction, and high impact on confidentiality.

Potential Impact

Authenticated users with low privileges can bypass intended access controls to read sensitive financial data beyond their authorized scope. This could lead to unauthorized disclosure of confidential financial information within the affected ERPNext deployments.

Mitigation Recommendations

A fix is available in Frappe ERPNext versions 15.120.0 and 16.33.0 and later. Users should upgrade to these versions to remediate the missing authorization vulnerability. Since this is not a cloud service, manual patching is required. Patch status is confirmed by the provided affected version ranges indicating fixed versions.
