Vendor/Project: frappe
Product: erpnext

Description

CVE-2026-109629 is a missing authorization vulnerability in Frappe ERPNext versions before 15.121.3 and 16.x before 16.35.0. The flaw exists in an endpoint that sends transactional emails using the site's configured outgoing account without verifying the caller's authorization. This allows any authenticated user to send arbitrary emails with attacker-controlled content and recipient lists, impersonating the organization.

Technical Analysis

Frappe ERPNext versions prior to 15.121.3 and 16.x prior to 16.35.0 contain a missing authorization vulnerability in an email-sending endpoint. The endpoint fails to check if the authenticated user is authorized to send transactional emails, enabling any authenticated user to supply arbitrary recipient lists and message content. This results in the ability to send emails that appear to originate from the organization's configured outgoing email account, potentially facilitating phishing or spoofing attacks.

Potential Impact

An attacker with any authenticated access can send emails impersonating the organization by controlling recipient lists and message content. This could lead to phishing, social engineering, or reputational damage. However, the vulnerability requires authenticated access and does not allow privilege escalation or direct system compromise.

Mitigation Recommendations

A fix is available in versions 15.121.3 and 16.35.0 and later. Users should upgrade to these versions or later to remediate the vulnerability. Since this is not a cloud service, remediation depends on applying the official patch from the vendor. Patch status is confirmed by the affected versions data.
