Technical Analysis

Frappe ERPNext versions prior to 15.119.0 and 16.x prior to 16.31.0 contain a missing authorization vulnerability in specific endpoints. This flaw allows authenticated users with limited privileges to send crafted requests that bypass intended role-based access restrictions, enabling unauthorized creation and modification of data. The vulnerability arises from failure to enforce proper permission checks on these endpoints.

Potential Impact

Authenticated attackers with limited privileges can exploit this vulnerability to create and modify records beyond their authorized roles. This bypass of role-based access controls can lead to unauthorized data manipulation within the ERP system, potentially compromising data integrity and business processes.

Mitigation Recommendations

A fix is available in versions 15.119.0 and 16.31.0 of Frappe ERPNext. Users should upgrade to these or later versions to remediate the missing authorization vulnerability. Patch status is confirmed by the affected version ranges indicating fixed versions.
