Technical Analysis

CVE-2026-109927 is a privilege escalation vulnerability in the HIPAA Forms WordPress plugin prior to version 3.3.2. The plugin fails to verify user capabilities when processing requests that rebuild its custom user role. Consequently, a user possessing that role can exploit this to assign themselves administrator-level privileges, thereby escalating their access rights improperly. This vulnerability is categorized under CWE-269, indicating improper privilege management.

Potential Impact

An attacker with the custom user role in the affected versions can escalate their privileges to administrator level. This could allow them to perform any administrative actions on the WordPress site, potentially compromising site integrity, confidentiality, and availability.

Mitigation Recommendations

Upgrade the HIPAA Forms plugin to version 3.3.2 or later, where this vulnerability has been addressed. Since no official patch link is provided, users should verify the update availability directly from the plugin vendor or WordPress plugin repository. No temporary workaround is indicated.
