Technical Analysis

The Otter Blocks WordPress plugin versions prior to 3.2.8 do not properly sanitize and escape user-supplied styling values for blocks before embedding them in inline stylesheets. This improper handling enables users with contributor-level permissions or above to inject malicious JavaScript code. The injected scripts execute in the context of any visitor who views the affected post, potentially leading to unauthorized actions or data exposure.

Potential Impact

Users with contributor-level access or higher can inject arbitrary web scripts that execute in the browsers of visitors and administrators viewing the affected posts. This could lead to session hijacking, defacement, or other client-side attacks depending on the injected payload. The vulnerability affects the confidentiality and integrity of user sessions and site content.

Mitigation Recommendations

Upgrade the Otter Blocks plugin to version 3.2.8 or later, where this vulnerability is fixed. No other mitigation is specified. Patch status is confirmed by the version boundary indicating the fix in 3.2.8.
